A Long and Distinguished History

Soon after a tragic plane crash affected the community of Carson City, ground breaking for Walton’s Chapel of the Valley began in 1965 by Edward B. McCaffery, Jr., who felt that Carson Valley residents were not being properly served during their times of need. Along with the funeral home, Walton’s Carson Gardens Cemetery was constructed on the grounds, offering families the convenience and comfort of making all arrangements for funeral services, merchandise, flowers and memorial property in one location.

Since 1959, Ed McCaffery’s vision of funeral service excellence has led to his expansion into other communities in Nevada and California through the construction and acquisition of new facilities. In 1986, Mr. McCaffery’s daughter, Tammy Dermody joined with him to continue this vision, creating what has come to be known as the “Walton’s Family of Funeral Homes”.

Walton’s Chapel of Valley is Carson Valley’s ONLY all-inclusive funeral home and cemetery combination, affording families the convenience, economy and safety of providing all elements necessary to create a complete, coordinated and meaningful tribute for your loved one. We offer a spacious and comfortable chapel and private visitation rooms. A large parking lot is conveniently located on the south side of the funeral home. Walton’s Chapel of the Valley Funeral Home and Walton’s Carson Gardens Cemetery in Carson City is undergoing an extensive expansion that will include a Cremation Garden and Conservatory. This beautiful garden and conservatory will be the only one of its kind in the Carson Valley area, offering families unique memorial property to permanently place the cremated remains of their loved ones. Its natural, serene landscape will provide a peaceful setting for remembrance and reflection. There will also be the addition of more ground-burial sites and the construction of new mausoleums and a Cemetery Chapel. Our professional staff at Walton’s Chapel of the Valley consider themselves not just Funeral Directors, but Event Planners.
